TAKE NOTE…

  • Rossini’s Overture from William Tell features one of the most famous musical passages of all time: the melody used as the theme to the classic radio and TV western The Lone Ranger.
  • Ponchielli’s Danze delle Ore (Dance of the Hours) might sound familiar to those that have seen the Disney animated film Fantasia, where the music scores a comic ballet with ostriches, hippos, elephants, and alligators. The work’s melody was also used for Allan Sherman’s hit “Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh (A Letter from Camp)”.
  • Verdi’s third opera, Nabucco, thrust the young composer to international fame, and features the work Va pensiero (Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves) – one of the best known numbers in opera. Va pensiero is still often performed as an encore in opera houses.
  •  La Traviata is based on the play La Dame aux Camelias, a play adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas.
