DVORAK Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, op. 95 "From the New World"

Join the Reno Phil in celebration of the American West. Hear the unveiling of Grammy-nominated composer Zhou Tian's commissioned work, inspired by the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad - which united the nation and gave new life to the city of Elko. The orchestra will also perform the New World Symphony, garnering its name because Czech composer Dvorak wrote it during the 1890s when exploring the U.S.

In celebration with Artown, the Reno Phil Orchestra and Chorus will perform patriotic and classical favorites at Wingfield Park on Thursday, July 4, in Downtown Reno. Conducted by Laura Jackson, the family friendly performance will begin at 7:30 PM and will end with a fantastic firework finale. The park opens at 5:00 PM, come early with a picnic dinner and save your spot on the lawn. This patriotic event is free to the community.

A NIGHT AT WOODSTOCK

Take a trip back in time to New York’s Catskill Mountains, circa 1969, as Pops on the River presents A Night at Woodstock. Throw on your best tie-dyed shirt and join the Reno Phil Orchestra and guest vocalists as they celebrate the 50th anniversary of the seminal music festival. You will hear songs made famous by Janis Joplin, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Santana and more. Pops on the River is a fundraising event featuring a costume contest, raffle and unforgettable concert. The Reno Phil Orchestra will perform the world famous production of Beethoven Lives Upstairs, featuring a lively exchange of letters between young Christoph
and his uncle. Their subject is the "madman" who has moved into the upstairs apartment of Christoph's Vienna home. Through a touching correspondence dramatically underscored with the composer's most beautiful exerpts, Christoph comes to understand the genius of Beethoven, the beauty of his music, and the torment of his deafness.

The YSS will be followed by the Youth Concert Orchestra (YCO) under the direction of Dustin Budish and conclude with the Youth Symphony Orchestra (YSO) under the direction of Jason Altieri.
