Emily Teekasingh has loved music as long as she can remember. Born and raised in Los Angeles, she started out playing piano and loved learning new instruments from the guitar to the cello. She played in rock and jazz bands with her younger brother through high school.
She studied at Oberlin College, where she pursued classes at the music conservatory while earning a BA in Cinema Studies. One of her most rewarding college jobs was as the Music Director for Camp Boggy Creek, a camp for seriously ill children.
After college, she moved to New York City, where she sang and played banjo in a bluegrass band and pursued a Master of City and Regional Planning degree at Pratt Institute.
She was recruited by Tesla and moved to Reno in 2017. She joined the Reno Philharmonic Chorus as an alto in 2018 and has been a board trustee since 2019. She is excited to continue sharing her love of music through her work at the Reno Phil.
