RENO PHIL BRINGS THE WORKS OF GEORGE GERSHWIN TO CENTER STAGE

Reno, Nev. (March 13, 2024) — The Reno Philharmonic will highlight the works of famed American composer George Gershwin on March 23 and 24 at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. Reno Phil musician, Jordan Pyle, will be the featured musician of the weekend performing renowned composer Michael Daugherty’s piece, Spaghetti Western.

“The works of George Gershwin are a treat to be able to share with the community,” said Aaron Doty, President & CEO of the Reno Phil. “ Being able to spotlight one of the Reno Phil’s own in Jordan Pyle is the cherry on top to what is sure to be a tremendous weekend of concerts.”

In celebration of George Gershwin’s 125 birthday, the Reno Phil will perform, The "Unabridged Critical Edition" of the classic An American in Paris. featuring restored taxi horns and other details, this edition offers the most authentic performance of Gershwin’s original vision. To open the concert the orchestra will perform, The Primrose Overture, an early work with hints of jazz and ragtime, which offers a glimpse into his developing style. However, recordings and sheet music for this lesser-known piece are rare to find. “Jordan Pyle is a wonderful musician who will do an incredible job bringing Spaghetti Western to life,” said Laura Jackson, Conductor and Music Director at the Reno Phil. “I am eager to hear how this concert is received, the community is in for a spectacular weekend of musical excellence.”

Jordan Pyle, a Reno local, fell in love with music at an early age after experiencing Mozart’s operas. Her primary inspiration was the Magic Flute, where she would dance, sing, and act out scenes from the Opera. Pyle has gone on to perform with orchestras across the United States with appearances at the Dallas Symphony, Colorado Symphony, and the Forth Worth Symphony. Jordan also is a member of the North Star Chamber Players and is a founding member of Our time Wind Quintet.
