RENO PHIL ANNOUNCES NEW PRESIDENT AND CEO, IGNACIO BARRÓN VIELA

Reno, Nev. (August 2, 2022)— In December of 2021, the Reno Phil Board of Directors announced the beginning of a national search to find the next President & CEO of the organization. After an extensive search process lead by members of the Reno Phil Board and with the assistance of Aspen Leadership Group, Ignacio Barrón Viela has been selected as the President & CEO, beginning October 26, 2022.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Ignacio to the Reno area,” said Reno Phil Board Chair, Yvonne Murphy. “His experience engaging communities and working with orchestras will take the Reno Phil to the next level.”

Barrón Viela will succeed Tim Young, who served as the Reno Phil’s President & CEO for 19 years. Reno Phil staff and core supporters also participated and provided feedback during various stages of the process.

“It is an honor to have been chosen as the next President & CEO of the Reno Philharmonic, and I am thankful to the board and the search committee for entrusting me with this responsibility,” said Barrón Viela.

With significant consideration given to the skills, experiences and expertise needed to successfully guide the Reno Phil into the next chapter of growth, the Reno Phil Board has selected Barrón Viela to serve in this critical leadership role.

Barrón Viela is a native Spaniard and performed in orchestras across the globe. Most recently, he served as the Executive Director of the Billings Symphony Orchestra & Chorale where he helped to acquire the two largest single gifts in the organization’s 72-year history, a commercial building in Downtown Billings that houses the Billings Symphony office and brings additional revenue from retail tenants and a seven-figure donation to sponsor the Executive Director’s position. Barrón Viela doubled the net assets to over five million dollars and doubled the annual operating budget to close to two million dollars.

“I am inspired by this opportunity to work closely with Laura Jackson, the remarkable Reno Phil musicians, a great board, and an energetic and passionate team of staff,” said Barrón Viela.

The Reno Phil is confident that under his leadership the organization’s success and impact in achieving its mission and vision will continue to flourish.

The Reno Phil thanks the community for the continued support and partnership as they welcome Ignacio into his new role.
