AUDIENCE FAVORITE RETURNS TO CENTER STAGE, RENO PHIL CONTINUES HISTORIC 55TH SEASON

Reno, Nev. (November 1, 2023) — On November 11 and 12 the Reno Phil opens another chapter on its 55th season with Nakamatsu plays Brahms. The Reno Phil Orchestra will be joined by world renowned pianist, Jon Nakamatsu as he makes his return to the Reno community. Also on the program for the evening is Nkeiru Okoye’s piece, Voices Shouting Out, a response to the tragic events that occurred on September 11, 2001.

Sunday, October 12, beginning at 4:00 p.m.

“It’s truly an honor to be able to take the stage with Jon again,” said Laura Jackson, Conductor and Music Director of the Reno Phil. “His performances are breathtaking, and I am eagerly awaiting the feedback from our community.”

Entering his third decade of touring, Jon Nakamatsu has performed alongside several critically acclaimed orchestras throughout the world. Having been a guest soloist with over 150 orchestras, Nakamatsu has shared the stage with symphonies and orchestras in Berlin, San Francisco, Tokyo, Boston, Milan and more. He has worked with several esteemed conductors such as Marin Alsop, Michael Tilson Thomas and Marek Janowski.

“This is the perfect program to have on our 55th season” said David Hyslop, Interim President & CEO. “With years of experience, we are so lucky to have someone like Jon continuing to come back to our community so everyone can enjoy his talent.”

Also on the program, Nkieru Okoye’s piece about the tragic events of 9/11. Voices Shouting Out takes a different approach, it is not a solemn and grieving exploration of the terrible event that shaped America. Instead, it has a voice of affirmation, a reflection of a determination to move ahead in confidence and unity as a nation.
