Reno Phil Performs Stravinsky’s The Firebird

Reno, Nev. — The Reno Phil presents Stravinsky’s Firebird as part of its Classix Series on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 4:00 PM and Sunday, February 22, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts.

The concert program includes The Firebird Suite (1919) by Igor Stravinsky, one of the composer’s most frequently performed orchestral works. The suite is drawn from Stravinsky’s 1910 ballet The Firebird and is noted for its orchestration and rhythmic structure.

The program also features What Trees May Speak by Jonathan Sokol, and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor, with longtime Reno Phil favorite Jon Nakamatsu as piano soloist. Nakamatsu will appear in place of Joyce Yang, who is unable to perform as scheduled.

Nakamatsu is an American pianist and gold medalist of the 1997 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. He has appeared as a soloist with major orchestras throughout the United States and internationally and serves on the piano faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

This program brings together a contemporary orchestral work, a cornerstone of the piano repertoire, and one of the most influential orchestral scores of the 20th century,” said Aaron Doty, CEO of the Reno Phil.

Tickets start at $27.50 and are available at www.renophil.com.
